Or two. Just when you thought you escaped the Makati/Manila traffic, there's always Alabang-Zapote to ruin your day. Please don't become EDSA of the South.

2. South = Province
Just because we have more green spaces, lesser buildings, and a few province-like scenery does not make us a province. So what if we're far? So what if we're closer to SLEX? We're also part of the NCR too you know.

*Well, except for the cases of Cavite and Laguna... we still southies tho.
3. Expensive tollgates
One of the main reasons why our North friends refuse to visit us, or why we Southies would rather miss out an event in QC is because of the expensive tollgates! Skyway, we still love you.

Almost everything you have in Makati, we have in Alabang. We would rather spend the weekend in Alabang Town Center than go to Greenbelt.

5. We love house parties
Probably because most of the cool bars are in Makati/BGC and we're too lazy to go there (and going home after midnight is a pain for us). But because of this, we know how to host amazing house parties!
6. Southies love to wear shorts
It's like an unspoken dress code among us. Don't forget the tsinelas!
But seriously, maybe it's because we're more chill.
But seriously, maybe it's because we're more chill.
According to our research, 2 out of 7 Southies wear pants and leggings (jk tho)

7. Getting Uber or Grabcar from Makati was never a choice unless you're desperate
Especially on Friday rush hours! P800 to Las Pinas? No thanks!
8. We actually appreciate being near everywhere
Uber on a Thursday morning
8. We actually appreciate being near everywhere
Tagaytay and Nuvali? No problem, we're close to SLEX. NAIA? No problem, it's basically in Paranaque. Taft? No problem, it's one bus away. Makati? No problem, it's one FX away. MOA? City of Dreams? Solaire? You bet we're close!
I mean, we all live one tricycle away! House parties are never hard to attend to! And asking friends for food trips is a lot easier!
*Photos credited to the wonderful owners. You guys are awesome.
What do you think, fellow south peeps? If we missed something, don't forget to comment it below! And don't forget to like our Facebook page!
MuntiParLas! Hehehe!!!
ReplyDeletePero paano kaming nasa extreme South (Cavite-Laguna)?
And you have "Alabang-Zapote?" Kami naman may "Aguinaldo Highway" and the very notorious "Talaba-Longos Junction," na tawag ng mga UV Express Drivers as "Oyster" or "Tsunami." Embudo kung embudo.
High five from the Tigasins...tiga-south! :D
Hi Bernardo! Thank you for sharing with us your experience! And yes, totoo rin nga ang traffic diyaan sa Aguinaldo Highway, thank you for pointing that out! Maybe next time we can post about the Extreme South ;) High five fellow tiga-South!
DeleteOne time Talaba is also coded as redtide nung ang laman ng balita e puro redtide. And the infamous Buhos system and the detours dahil iwas huli kasi kolorum
DeleteI love this article.
ReplyDeleteNext-time kindly include Friendship route, buhos (counter-flow) system, SPA every 2 kms, for Las Pinas. lol :)
Hi Mitsubishi Citimotors! That's very true! We hate it every time we get caught up in the notorious buhos system. Only in Las Pinas!
DeleteI beg to differ, since buhos system was 1st implemented in Cavite, just to ease traffic in Talaba-Longos area. LPC followed suit
Deleteif ur from las pinas ur car should always be on the left side.so kapag buhos na..eh hindi ka maiipit sa kanan.except ur going to right.
DeleteI could totally relate.I'm from Laguna and have been travelling 2 the makati of the south for 9yrs now. There are things here I wouldn't trade 4 a bigger salary.Love this article! Hope to read more like this.

ReplyDeleteHi Mic! Thank you for your comment! We could all relate, especially to the things here we wouldn't trade for a bigger salary. For sure, there would be more articles like this in the future!
DeleteVery true especially the use of tricycle from Las Piñas to Parañaque or Las Piñas to Muntinlupa. The problem is - too expensive. But it is somehow very helpful to commuters who want a trafficless route.
ReplyDeleteHi John Rey! Yes, we all love the convenience of tricycles. Sadly, we all agree that it's too expensive. But we would rather pay a P40 tric ride to go to Aguirre than a P200 Uber ride from Makati to BGC! Thanks for your comment!
DeleteEDSA2.0, but since we all have our Las Pinas friendship stickers, this won't be an issue.
ReplyDeleteHi Edwin! Yes, that's very true! Friendship stickers really save us a lot of time! Thank you for your comment!
DeleteTryke price fairs after 11pm is equivalent of price fairs of buses going to lawton
ReplyDeleteHi Mikael! Yep, you got it right! That's why we always make sure to come home before the doble-pamasahe time! Thanks for your comment!
DeleteHave you guys tried river drive new friendship route in las pinas?if trafic na sa zapote going to alabang try this route😀
ReplyDeleteHi Collin! That's very true! It leads to BFRV though, but it saves a lot of time. However, most UV expresses are not allowed to enter here anymore. As far as we can remember, but hopefully they'd allow soon! Thanks for your comment!

ReplyDeleteIf you're from the South of the Metro, you'll dig this article!
ReplyDelete#6 for me, yay! One word - CHILLnelas!
Hi Eihdra! We love CHILLnelas! Especially Havaianas. We have this thinking that Havs are almost the same as wearing shoes since its expensive! Thanks for your comment!
DeleteDon't forget Alabang-Zapote Road has at least 7 malls and numerous supermarkets and traffic galore?
ReplyDeleteHi! Especially from Times to Casimiro, you have two SMs already! Thanks for your comment!
DeleteHi, and now daang hari road taking shape @ evia lifestyle center mall and starmall prima is something to look out for. Very Nice New Malls.
ReplyDeleteAnd the muntinlupa - cavite expressway (MCX)
Doña Soledad Avenue (DSA) in Better Living is another candidate for being the EDSA of the South. Non-residents and trucks who use the private road are the culprits.
ReplyDelete^This is so true, we should close Dona Soledad or make non-residents buy stickers so we have money for road rehab and allowances of tanods.
DeleteEven if you build a dozen SM malls in the stretch of Alabang-Zapote Road, we will never forget Fernando's, RFC and Manuela.
ReplyDeleteAnd very true with the shorts. I for one feel I am overdressed if I go to "Town" wearing pants.
Ever and Uniwide
DeleteGod level na ang uniwide. Hahahaha
Deletethe famous manuela pizza haus!!na maraming patok na banda including hot sauce band!!!(before now..wala na)
DeleteI love being a Soirhies, I was raise in Bacoor, grew up in Las Piñas... I love the once majestic RFC, Uniwide South, EVer, now SM Southmall,Ayala Mall Alabang, Festival Mall... the Bamboo Organ, in Cavite, the Talaba and Tahong, DIgmans Halo Halo... many more here in the South...
ReplyDeleteHotels here sa south can be compared din sa mga hotels sa north...we have bellevue, acacia, crimson, vivere & parque españa...
ReplyDeleteWe also have very good schools such as san beda Alabang, zobel, southville, southridge and brent
Southies would rather stay here sa south than to travel and experience the traffic going to north which is a challenge and be late for meetings or appointments
Tagaytay kayo punta?
ReplyDeleteme was like....yawnnnn ahahahah
Parking is cheaper (free even!). P20 fixed rate at most. SM Sucat, Hypermarket and SM BF.
ReplyDeleteSa north, swerte na P40 fixed rate. Malimit first 3 hrs lang tapos dagdag na per hour.
Parking in SM Bacoor is free!
DeleteThat pedestrians don't use the overpass nor pedestrian crossings. Then when drivers don't let them cross the road (which they shouldn't in the first place) they will curse them big time!
ReplyDeleteOMG so relatable! Greatjob South Yuppies! More of these please.
ReplyDeleteAlong Sucat, there are 3 SM establishments, 3 Puregold, 1 Shopwise and 1 Walter. Not to mention another 2 Puregold in BF, 1 Robinsons. BF Homes pa lang, kumpleto na, from restaurants (Aguirre), to banks, gas stations, car wash and talyers (President). Pag traffic sa SLEX, pasok ka Sucat, labas ka Alabang Hills, or Standard (kahit wala na dun Standard), or Southland, or Casimiro, or Zapote na via Naga. Dami shortcuts. Dapat lang may sticker ka. Mahal kung passing through.
ReplyDeleteIf BGC has St Lukes, may Asian Hospital tayo. Kung gusto mo mas mura, Perpetual.
One of the most convenient places to attend Mass if you have babies or if raining - St Jerome near ATC. May outdoor speakers and display. Kahit sa car lang Mass ok na. Baba na lang for communion.
Masaya sa south. Kung namamahalan ka sa toll, pwede naman service road.
- taga south since 1974. Nag Manila, Cainta, QC. Bumalik sa south 2006 for good :)
If you're from Moonwalk or Better Living, Pque. There's EDSA Soledad, este Doña Soledad. From Airport Village to SM Bicutan, it takes 1 hr before you reach it out. The reason why of having a Parañaque EDSA Version because of the vehicles taking a shortcut to NAIA and Cavitex. But, a big thanks to NAIAX and C5 extension from SLEX Merville to Cavitex for having a reliever of this traffic.
ReplyDeleteI live along the border of Parañaque and Taguig. Despite being relatively a stone's throw away from the nearest MRT station (Magallanes), commuting to and from any place to the north is a pain. Especially on Fridays during the rush hour. As a result, we sometimes feel disconnected from Metro Manila.
ReplyDeleteI blame it on the service road system that we have along South Super Highway. Argh. I can't wait for that subway to be built.
from bacoor here..we have lots of royalty daan here.. daang hari to alabang to aguinaldo hway and daang reyna to laguna.. and also molino blvd..no need to travel to atc we have the evia and across is the famous fernbrook church lots of sm and other malls too..
Longlive to u Starwars..hahaha
ReplyDeletehahaha StarWars for life!
DeleteI always wear shorts since I was a kid. Until now. Most of my friends do too. Fond of wearing slippers too (Ipanema). When we go to my fiance's house in Manila, they would tell me to change my shorts before buying in sari-sari stores LOL. Even going to the malls. Waaaa crazy! Im not comfortable wearing pants especially because hey, we're in the Philippines! It's so hot in here most months of the year. And when it's raining, I want to wear shorts too! I dont want mud on my pants :)
ReplyDeleteI love the friendship sticker because we can avoid the traffic on Alabang-Zapote Rd.
I love residing in Las Pinas City because there's no coding! Our coding day is every Tuesday but when those orange-shirt men try to wave at us to slow us down, they would immediately changed minds as we go nearer and they see the friendship sticker! Haha. It happened one day and on 4 men! Sa bawat kanto LOL.
We started from TS Cruz area, then Bf Almanza, then Pilar Vil and Southmall. Malayo pa lang kita na ang plate number and ipapatabi na kami pero pag malapit na kami and nakita ang sticker, sige go na ang senyas! Hahaha
I also love it here na madaming malls along the highway lang. 3 SMs! Plus Robinson, ATC, Uniwide, RFC, Starmall, Festivall and more!
"...because of the expensive tollgates!" <<<< Uhm, I don't really know who in his right mind would want to buy a toll gate. But yes, a toll gate is expensive, with that barrier, that concrete, all that black and yellow paint... :)
ReplyDeleteIf you're a commuter, at pauwi kna from Coastal.. may makakasabay Kang gusto bumaba sa tulay ng Zapote.. You'll here them say, "Ma, may bababa sa bago umakyat..!" Haha! Nung bago lang sa Las Pinas ang asawa ko, naguluhan sya and tanong nya ako Kung saang lugar yun? Hahaha!! Sabi ko "bago umakyat ng tulay ng Zapote..mahaba kasi sabihin eh. Hahaha!!
ReplyDeleteSouthies don't mind wearing pambahay clothes when going to malls even pajamas at night. =))
